Performance Assessment

Stress Testing Organizations

Performance Assessment goes beyond Gap Analysis. Challenging organizational effectivity and efficiency, this Qemicon service uses a Triple-A assessment – Absence, Adherence and Adequacy.

Next Level Performance

Organizational performance is first about doing the right things – effectivity. Less simple than it appears since determining if any given action brings an organization towards the organizational objectives is quite a challenging task. Organizational performance is second about doing things in the right way – efficiency. Again quite challenging since the “right way” usually has to be picked out of a plethora of possibilities.

And of course, in most cases a combined impact of effectivity and efficiency has to be taken into account. Activities crucial for achieving objectives – high effectivity – may simply not work due to low efficiency. Quite a nasty combination that frequently turns into a hidden roadblock since responsible units prefer not to discuss their lack of progress due to repetitive failures.

Low effectivity in combination with high efficiency is dangerous as well, since these activities tend to become the playground of units under pressure. As soon as organization management demands “action”, pressured units go for high efficiency activities that allow to report impressive performance figures. The sad fact that the frenzy of activities has hardly an effect on achievement of objectives due to missing effectivity remains frequently undetected.

Qemicon performance assessment is about effectivity, efficiency and any combination thereof.

Triple-A Assessment

ABSENCE
Results drive processes and projects. Consequently, the absence of results seriously impacts progress and performance. The exclusive focus on presence or absence of results is, however, overly simplistic.

ADHERENCE
Results may be available (not absent) but may not adhere to your plans and intentions. The classical example is failing timelines or not meeting budget restrictions. While results are not absent, there is still impact on progress and performance due to lack of adherence.

ADEQUACY
Even results available and adhering to plans such as time or budget may still impact progress and performance if they lack adequacy. Lacking adequacy simply translates to not matching your requirements. Quality issues – inadequate quality of science or inadequate quality of documentation and reporting – frequently fall in the adequacy field.

TRIPLE-A
For these reasons, Qemicon performance assessments follow the “Triple-A” principle. Because next level performance needs to check all three boxes – Absence, Adherence and Adequacy.
